Unschooling Vs. Homeschooling What’s The Difference

You’ve done it! You’ve made the choice to homeschool your children. But now what? There are different methods of homeschooling: school-at-home, Charlotte Mason, classical, and unschooling, to name a few. If you unschool are you really homeschooling, or is it something else entirely?

Unschooling, as it’s often called, is one alternative to public school and even homeschooling. Also known as natural learning, independent learning, or child-led learning, unschooling is an approach that flies in the face of traditional thought when it comes to educating your child. So what exactly is unschooling, and how does it differ from homeschooling?

The biggest difference between unschooling and homeschooling is in the mindset. Where homeschooling is basically concerned with your child learning what it normally taught in public schools, unschoolers have a completely different way of looking at their children and at life. Unschooling is based on mutual trust between parent and child and in finding what works best for them.

Homeschoolers might choose to use a specific curriculum as a base for their teaching. Unschoolers, however, may not even use a pre-planned curriculum at all. Unschoolers believe that children learn at all times, and that what they need to learn doesn’t necessarily have to come out of a set curriculum.

Another term for unschooling is delight-driven. It’s not that a child is given complete freedom from learning; it means that the child is allowed to learn the things that interest them instead of what an institution says they should know. Most often those who unschool learn those things that they will be using in life rather than just what is in a book.

It may seem to an outsider looking in that an unschooler isn’t actually doing school work at all. In fact, unschoolers believe that living life is the best education a child can get, so they aren’t quite as concerned about what others think. Of course, if you live in a state that has more requirements for homeschoolers, it might seem a little daunting to prove that actual learning is taking place.

Since homeschooling can take on so many faces, it seems that unschooling fits right in after all. All homeschooling parents want the opportunity for their children to learn in an environment where they are encouraged to grow, develop, and flourish. What better way than to allow your child to learn the things that interest them? In doing so, they’ll pick up the things that traditional education believes they need to know.

Private Student Loans

Private financial companies including banks or other specialized educational money lenders provide private student loans for students. It is one of the different types of loans available for the students to continue their higher education when they do not have the money to do so.

Private student loans have all the features of various government loans, and can be the best choice for those in search of educational finance. They have higher loan limits with attractive interest rates. Similar to the federal loans, they also have a grace period and students do not need to start repaying them prior to the completion of studies.

The grace periods of the loans vary from company to company and can be from six months to 12 months. Even though private student loans offer lower interest rates, they can be a little higher than the government loan interest rates, but much lower than other private loans. Unlike government loans, there are overhead charges often called origination fees, which are applicable at the time of the loan processing.

Private student loans are based on the credit history of the applicant or of the co-signer. This type of loan is utilized by students who are not able to pay for their educations without a loan but cannot apply for federal loans due to the possession of assets beyond the qualifying limit or due to higher income of the family.

Private student loans are looked as an alternative to federal student loans for parents, known as PLUS (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) loan. Private student loans need not be paid back until graduation, whereas the repayment of PLUS loan starts soon after the procedures. Many international students can also acquire these private loans with the help of a co-signer. The loan amount is paid directly to the school by the lender and the remaining money is given to the student for living expenses. Due to a lower interest rate, these loans are widely used by students. Today, many companies also offer online private student loans.

The Teacher becomes the student

A relationship expert once said that during an argument, there’s usually three sides to every story: his side, her side, and of course, the truth. This is something we must definitely keep in mind as teachers. Many educators (especially professors), have been accused of having the biggest egos this side of Mount Rushmore. One of the quickest ways to burn out in education is to refuse to embrace change. Keep in mind whether we want to admit it or not, life moves and changes constantly.

Students are constantly exposed to material we once never dreamed existed. Ironically, although students are exposed to more, they typically know less and are less mature than the generations before. However, that does not discredit the fact that students still bring a unique perspective to our classroom; it’s through their eyes that we can become better teachers.

One useful strategies for maintaining a high level of motivation in the classroom, can come from the Sales industry. Rule #1 in Sales is that in order to bring the customer to where you are (your level of understanding), you must first go to where they are (they’re current level of understanding). In simple terms, you must know your customer (in this case, your student).

Relating this concept to the education arena, you must simply and clearly define your objectives and what you would like to see happen over the course of a semester (or even a brief interaction) with a student, and then you help your students to do the same. In other words, know where YOU want to go, help them find out where THEY want to go, and then come up with a strategy for both of you to get there. In negotiating terms, they call this a win-win solution. Obviously, this strategy can only work if you value the student, and you believe he or she can make you a better teacher.

Students aren’t as concerned with the subject matter itself as they were with how the subject matter is being taught. They are more concerned with the Teachers attitude than the answers they are given. This might be a revelation to many eductators

If you want to become a more productive educator in or outside of the classroom, the key is student input – you must seek it. They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again, but expecting different results. If you listen to and solicit feedback from your students, you won’t have to repeat the mistakes of the past. So value your students and their input; trust me, they hold the keys to your success.

Chiropractic Marketing Teacher Appreciation Programs

In our school district, the teachers all have a $1500 yearly max benefit. Their out of pocket cost in our office was $400 each. The total we collected on each teacher was $1900.

If you take $1900 X the 35 teachers that got started with carewe made a cool $66,500 from just two Teacher Appreciation Programsand thats not including what we did from referral marketing and the other forms of marketing we doyes, it was a good summer.

I share this with you not to make it all about making money, to brag, or to make it sound like Im better than you (because Im not)and in no way shape or form am I even implying that. I share it with you because this is one marketing strategy that you cannot fail at! and I want you to do one of these programs so you can be extremely profitable too!

However, there is an upside and a downside to a marketing strategy like this.

The Upside: The great thing about a chiropractic marketing strategy like this is that once you get into a school, you can go back to that school over and over again, all year long if you want to! Some schools have as many as 80-100 teachers (not including the staff) and youll usually only be able to reach a maximum of 25 teachers per Appreciation Programwhich means you can go back 2-3-4 times before you reach “ALL” the teachers. (and the schools will want you to come back because they wont want any of their teachers to miss outas a matter of fact, the teachers will actually beg the school principle to bring you back again) and you can expect to schedule a least 80% of those teachers as patients.

The Downside: The downside is thismost schools will only allow 1 chiropractic office per district to do these programswhich means if you dont jump on this immediately, some other chiropractor in your area will, and youll be left standing in the cold, wondering “Why didnt I act sooner?”

This stuff works, it’s highly profitable and its easy to do!
